Colonnade Lights Frequently Asked Questions

...about Colonnade Light Clip Strips

(U. S. Patents # 369,957; 374,739; 5,544,031 and other patents pending)

Q: How do you install the Liteclip Strip?

A: There are several ways to install the Strip;. Glue, screw, staple and double sided tape.

Glue: Most installations on a flat surface use a silicone based adhesive or caulk type material and place a nickel sized dab of adhesive approximately every 6-12 inches and then press the Strip in place with a slight sliding motion to seat the glue. Tape is sometimes used when the surfaces is inclined or vertical.

Screw: A single pan head screw can be used for quick installations in metal and wood if desired on 6 inch centers on alternating sides of the Strip.

Staple: Wide crown or standard staples can be applied to each side of the Strip on 6 inch centers for temporary or permanent installations or in installations where glue is not practical.

Double sided tape: Used to provide an instant installation to glass windows, marble and other surfaces where a quick adhesion is required with minimal damage to the surface. A one (1) inch wide double sided closed cell foam tape is suggested.

Q: Where do I place the Strips?

A: Strips can be placed everywhere you want lights. You can place then under eves if you have gutters as the lights will be seen easily by any viewers at night. Strips can be placed around windows, doors and other features that you would normally outline for the holiday season. The Strip should have about 1 inch clearance behind it for the sockets and wires of any C-7 or C-9 light strings.

Q: What colors are available?

A: White. Custom colors are available by custom order and some are UV retardant. EMAIL us for details.

Q: Can the Strip be painted?

A: Yes. We suggest a thin coat of latex paint and if possible allow time for the PVC to weather.

Q: How do you attach the clips to the Strip?

A: Clips can be attached by a direct placement on the rounded bead of the Strip or use an angular motion where only a portion of the clip is started and then the clip is rocked into place on the Strip.

Q: What about removal?

A: With a slight tug or pull most clips will "pop" off of the clip. Weather conditions may make if more difficult in colder climates.

Q: How do I create icicle lights?

A: You can use plain 35, 50 or 100 bulb miniature light sets. Use either the 1/4" wire clips or 1/4" socket clips and start with installing the first socket or light on the Strip. Next allow the string to swag approximately 3-5 bulbs and then repeat the process using a varied amount of bulbs each time; i.e. 4-6, 7-8, 2-3, 6-7, 2-3 to give an non repeating look.

Q: How are individual 1-1/2 inch Strips used?

A: These are used where a continuous Strip is not desired. The short pieces allow the socket Clip to be removed from the building surface with only a small 3/8" "bump" left for a minimal view.

Q: How can I create Kitchen cabinet lighting with the Liteclip Strip?

A: The Strip can be stapled or attached to the underside of cabinets, inside the vertical supports of cabinets and under shelves. Miniature UL listed Christmas lights are attached with the 1/4" socket clips and are spaced for the desired brilliance of illumination.

Q: Can I use larger bulbs for cabinets?

A: If you can do so safely. We suggest that you consult the labeling of the light string that you are considering or your electrician.

Q: How are C-7 or C-9 light installed?

A: With a C-7 or a C-9 "Liteclip Strip Clip" for the specific size. We suggest that the clip remain on the string after the light set is removed.

Q: Do I have to place the light back up in the exact same place the next year?

A: No. You have the flexibility to move the lights on closer spacing and start where ever you desire.

Q: Can I mix bulb types and sizes?

A: Yes. What ever will fit on the Liteclip Strip! You can have icicles, C-7's, miniature all at the same time or you can set them in stages where one night you have icicles, the next night small twinkling miniature light and the next night brilliant C-7's! You can even set up a series of three to four different colored lights and just burn a different color each night or use a sequencer to create a menagerie of colors!

Q: Can I make letters or words with the Liteclip Strip?

A: Yes. You can cut, or use a hair dryer to bend and shape the Strip to many different configurations to a certain limit.

Q: How are window displays accented with the Liteclip Strip?

A: Place the Strip around the inside perimeter of the window and install the lights with the bulbs point outward. Use a dimmer to set the "mood" of the lights and reduce the reflection that may occur.

Q: How do you outline a shopping center parapet?

A: Attach the Strip on top of the Parapet wall or cap, even with the face (wall). Install the Liteclip Strip Clips with the bulbs and sockets, then place the bulb/socket/clip assembly along the Strip.   A flat roof center with 1,000 feet of parapet cap and a three foot wall usually takes 3-5 hours for a 2 person crew to install the first time. Removal is about one hour and reinstallation is approximately 2-3 hours each year.
