Colonnade Lights Frequently Asked Questions ...about "L" Bracket Clips (U. S. Patents # 369,957; 374,739; 5,544,031) Q: What size bulbs will the "L" clips fit? A: C-7 or C-9 sizes only. The C-7 clips has a 5/8" diameter opening for the bulb and the C-9 has a 7/8" opening. If in doubt the C-7 will fit completely through the opening of the C-9 clip. Q: How do you install the standard clip? A: There are several ways to install the clip. Glue, screw, staple and double sided tape. Glue: Most installations on a flat surface use a silicone based adhesive or caulk type material and place a nickel sized dab of adhesive and then press the clip on with a ¼ turn twist motion and then back to the desired location. In many horizontal surface installations the clip is attached to the bulb/socket before installation assuring of exact alignment between the socket and the clip. Tape is sometimes used when the surfaces is inclined or vertical. Screw: A single pan head screw can be used for quick installations in metal and wood if desired. Staple: 2-3 staples can be applied to position the clip to surfaces for temporary installations or in installations where glue is not practical . Double sided tape: Used to provide an instant installation to glass windows, marble and other surfaces where a quick adhesion is required with minimal damage to the surface. Q: What colors are available? A: White. Custom colors are available by custom order and some are UV retardant. EMAIL us for details. Q: Can the clips be painted? A: Yes. We suggest a thin coat of latex paint and if possible allow time for the PVC to weather. Q: How do you insert a bulb/socket assembled into the clip? A: Place the bulb/socket directly above the opening of the clip and with a slight twisting motion push into the clip. The assembled socket/bulb will cause the sides of the clip to spread allowing the bulb/socket to enter the clip. Q: What about removal, do I have to unscrew the bulb? A: No. Remove by twisting and reverse the installation action. Q: How does the shingle clip function? A: Installation and removal of the bulb/socket is the same as the standard. To install under a shingle we suggest that you loosen the shingle and gently insert the clip between the upper and lower shingle surface. Use care not to crack or fracture the shingle. You will have to determine the best weather to do this type of installation in. If cold climates will cause cracking of the shingles if they are separated, then we suggest that the installation be preformed during a warm time. You may have to do the installation in summer or early fall while the shingles are pliable. Slate, tile and Cement type shingles are generally not affected by the weather conditions, however we advise caution so as not to break the shingle when inserting the shingle clip.
